Client

City of Tea Tree Gully

Location

Golden Fields Reserve, Golden Grove, South Australia

Sector

Civil Engineering and Urban Design

The Golden Fields Reserve in Golden Grove is a much-used community asset, offering a variety of recreational facilities such as a playground, BMX track, skate park, picnic areas, and walking paths. With plans for a new adventure play space, the City of Tea Tree Gully recognised the need for additional parking infrastructure to enhance accessibility and cater to growing visitor numbers. To bring this vision to life, the council engaged BE Engineering Solutions to deliver the detailed design and documentation for a new car park.

The Challenge

Golden Fields Reserve’s growing popularity presented several challenges including:

  • The existing parking facilities were insufficient to accommodate increasing visitor numbers.
  • Integrating the new car park into the reserve’s natural environment while maintaining the area’s aesthetic and ecological balance.
  • Ensuring the design complemented the planned adventure play space and provided seamless connectivity to existing infrastructure.
  • Incorporating sustainable and environmentally friendly design elements to align with council goals.

The project required a balance between functionality, environmental sensitivity, and community needs.

Our Approach

BE Engineering Solutions adopted a tailored, multidisciplinary approach to ensure the car park design met the City of Tea Tree Gully’s requirements and community expectations.

  • Conducted a comprehensive assessment of the reserve’s existing facilities, topography, and traffic flow.
  • Identified optimal car park locations to minimize environmental impact and maximize accessibility.
  • Incorporated Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) principles to manage stormwater effectively, including bio-retention systems to improve water quality and reduce runoff.
  • Designed landscaping with significant tree planting and native vegetation to enhance biodiversity and shade coverage, contributing to a more sustainable and user-friendly environment.
  • Designed footpath linkages to seamlessly connect the car park to key facilities, including the new adventure play space and existing walking paths.
  • Ensured compliance with accessibility standards to accommodate all users, including those with mobility challenges.
  • Included aesthetically pleasing features, such as landscaped buffers and the use of trees, to blend the car park with the surrounding reserve.
  • Focused on creating a welcoming space that aligns with the reserve’s recreational and community-focused ethos.

Delivered comprehensive documentation, including civil design drawings, specifications, and construction guidance, to ensure the seamless execution of the project.
