The Adelaide Wine Capital Cycle Trail project is a visionary initiative aimed at creating an iconic 250-kilometre cycling trail connecting four world-renowned wine regions: Clare Valley, Barossa, Adelaide Hills, and McLaren Vale.

As part of this ambitious project, Light Regional Council engaged BE Engineering Solutions (BEES) to develop the concept design and 3D visualisation for the Tanunda to Kapunda Cycle end of the Trail. This section of the trail is critical in linking key destinations and enhancing tourism, community connectivity, and active transport options.

The Challenge

The Tanunda to Kapunda Cycle Trail posed several unique challenges including:

  • Designing a sealed bike trail that complements the natural and cultural landscapes of the Barossa region while ensuring accessibility for cyclists of all skill levels.
  • Developing a compelling vision to support Light Regional Council’s application for the Federal Government’s Building Better Regions Fund (BBRF) in March 2021.
  • Incorporating landmark features such as the Kapunda Goods Shed Precinct and integrating them seamlessly into the trail’s concept.
  • Highlighting the trail’s potential to boost tourism and regional economic growth.

  • Ensured the design incorporated sealed surfaces to provide a smooth, low-maintenance, and all-weather trail suitable for diverse user groups, from casual cyclists to avid enthusiasts.
  • 3D Visualisation and Photomontages
  • Developed 3D visualisations and photomontages to showcase the trail’s alignment and highlight its scenic and cultural/ tourism attractions.
  • Provided visual aids that clearly demonstrated the project’s transformative impact on the local landscape, making it an engaging and persuasive component of the BBRF submission.
  • Delivered a conceptual landscape design that emphasised the natural beauty of the Barossa region, integrating features such as native vegetation and lookout points.
